While Rome has a reputation of being the religious center of Christianity in the world today, most of its citizens are secular and disillusioned with religion. Less than 1% of the population consider themselves born- again believers with an understanding of the gospel message of salvation by grace through faith. That’s less than Africa (14.8%) Asia (3.6%) and even North Korea (1.5%). In fact, Western Europe is the continent with the smallest percentage of born-again, Bible-believing Christians in the world.
We believe that God intends to rebuild the foundation of salvation by grace through faith that lies in ruins in Rome and we believe that He has invited us to join Him there. Paul said it well in his letter to the Romans…
“That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are in Rome. For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.” Romans 1:15-16
Rome may not be the center of a world empire any longer, but it is still at the cross roads of many cultures as refugees and tourists from every continent flood it’s streets. Should God choose to ignite a blaze of His Spirit in Rome, the sparks could certainly reach every tongue, tribe and nation!
